Tim Arfons

From the time he was born in 1955, Tim Arfons was exposed to a work ethic that combined speed, excitement, showmanship and "thinking outside of the box." Growing up under the watchful eye of his father, the legendary three-time outright land speed record holder, Art Arfons, it was probably only natural Tim would follow his father's path. As he grew to adulthood, Tim watched and later began to participate in his Dad's quests in the famed "Green Monster" to be the "Fastest Man on Earth" on the Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah.

Jet Engine Consultant For New Movie "Twisters"

They (Scott A. Fisher, the special effects supervisor, who has received 2 Oscars and who worked on movies like Top Gun and Oppenheimer) called me out of the blue asking questions about jet engines and so it sounded like something I'd be interested in doing. They asked my advice as to what type of engine they should use and I explained the various types of jet engines to the team.
After learning more about what they were wanted to accomplish, I suggested a fan jet because the heat from the exhaust would be mixed with the fan's exhaust so we agreed that would work best for their purposes. I consulted for their special effects build team to determine how to strip parts off of it that they did not need, how to wire it, instrument it, figure out air flows and add safeties. Then I traveled to Oklahoma where they were filming in the summer of 2023. I went over the equipment. They had some leaks and I changed a fuel pump and fixed some other small issues. I set up the digital instruments and took it out and test fired it and showed them how to operate it. I taught their special effects team what to do and then they would call me with questions and I would trouble shoot over the phone and guide them.
